WindUp started as a frustration. Forecasts help plan a session, but checking the latest station reading is another task. We were tired of refreshing screens, missing peak windows, and getting woken at 4am by a forecast that turned out wrong.

So we built WindUp: an app that monitors supported wind stations and alerts you when the data matches your chosen conditions — and the alarm is free. On iOS, allow Critical Alerts for WindUp to sound through Silent or Focus. Delivery depends on your permissions, connection and device settings. Whether you ride kitesurfing, sail, fly a wing or a drone, use our sport guides to plan your setup, then choose a station and set an alarm in the app.

Who's behind WindUp

WindUp is built by Mohamed Essam and Mazen Amr — co-founders at Virtual Verse Studio and kitesurfers since 2022, who got tired enough of missing the wind to build a live alarm for it. When we're not building the app, we write wind guides and honest app reviews and run side-by-side comparisons of the tools riders actually use. The quickest way to see what WindUp does is to download it and set one free alarm at your spot. If something doesn't work the way you expect, tell us — we read everything.

The live wind alarm is free. Optional WindUp Pro features are available in the app; check the current offering for included features and regional prices. The rest is funded by partner stations and our parent studio, Virtual Verse Studio.
