WindUp is a tiny team obsessed with one thing: never missing the wind again.
WindUp started as a frustration. Every weather app on the planet does the same thing — show you forecasts. None of them ring you when the wind actually arrives. We were tired of refreshing screens, missing peak windows, and getting woken at 4am by a forecast that turned out wrong.
So we built WindUp: a free app that watches live wind stations 24/7 and rings you the moment your spot is on. We use iOS time-sensitive notifications and critical alerts so the alarm cuts through Do Not Disturb and Silent — because the wind doesn't wait for your phone settings. Whether you ride kitesurfing, sail, fly a wing or a drone, you set your wind range once on your sport's page and let it do the watching.
Who's behind WindUp
WindUp is built by Mohamed Essam and Mazen Amr — co-founders at Virtual Verse Studio and kitesurfers since 2022, who got tired enough of missing the wind to build a live alarm for it. When we're not building the app, we write wind guides and honest app reviews and run side-by-side comparisons of the tools riders actually use. Free, and staying that way
The live wind alarm is free. No subscription on the alarm, no trial trick, no ads. The app is funded by partner stations and our parent studio, Virtual Verse Studio. If we ever introduce a paid tier in the future, the live alarm itself will stay free — that's a promise.
